The Twitter Followholic: An Epidemic -> Good support for development of use of Twitter
sábado, março 28, 2009You don’t NEED to follow every profile you come across - you only need to follow the people who you find interesting and valuable to your everyday life. Follow them if you would talk to them in real life.
In reality, the number of followers you have should simply reflect the quality of what you give. If you’re following 1,000 people, and have somehow got 800 of those people to follow you back, it doesn’t really mean that much. But if 800 people have come across you on their own and started following you, while you’re only following the 80 people you care about - that says something about your value. It says that people follow you because you’re valuable, not because you’ve started following them first.

The Global Information Technology Report 2008-2009
sábado, março 28, 2009Denmark and Sweden once again lead the rankings of The Global Information Technology Report 2008-2009, released for the eighth consecutive year by the World Economic Forum. The United States follows suit, up one position from last year, thus confirming its pre-eminence in networked readiness in the current times of economic slowdown. Singapore (4), Switzerland (5) and the other Nordic countries together with the Netherlands and Canada complete the top 10.
The Report underlines that good education fundamentals and high levels of technological readiness and innovation are essential engines of growth needed to overcome the current economic crisis. Under the theme “Mobility in a Networked World”, this year’s Report places a particular focus on the relationship and interrelations between mobility and ICT.
With record coverage of 134 economies worldwide, the Report remains the world’s most comprehensive and authoritative international assessment of the impact of ICT on the development process and the competitiveness of nations.
The Report is produced by the World Economic Forum in cooperation with INSEAD, the leading international business school, and is sponsored by Cisco Systems.

The Twitter in the vision of its creator Jack Dorsey
sábado, março 28, 2009Dorsey in his speech began with a simple definition: "The Twitter is a social network, but a new form of communication."
It is interesting to understand where he was born the idea of Twitter. Dorsey recalls that Twitter was a personal interest in wanting to understand the functioning of cities and the move. This fascination was awakened by a radio communication system of taxis, where the taxi drivers are saying all the time where they are and what they are doing. This youthful curiosity led him to realize that at 20 he knew better what were the firemen, the policemen and taxi drivers that the daily lives and interests of their friends. "So there is a city without its people, so I decided to adapt the application and available to people," says Dorsey.
For the founder of this new tool of communication, the user's default Twitter that someone should be updated 3 times a day with your personal message channel had an average of 20 followers and 20 people follow too.
This information is a summary of several interviews given by Jack Dorsey on different mass media during the e-STAS.
Twitter Users Say They'd Pay For Account
sábado, março 28, 2009"Twitter users listed a bunch of other things they'd consider paying Twitter for. These include:
- Slightly longer messages: 160 characters instead of 140.
- Unlimited or prioritized access to API. (Twitter limits how many requests an account can make per hour.)
- Auto-deleting deadbeat followers who haven't logged in within a month.
- More reliable service. (Can't really charge on a per-user basis for this though, unless there's a separate Twitter that's more reliable, right?)
- Link-click analytics. (Free already if you use bit.ly
, though some limitations.) - Guaranteeing that their old tweets (all of them) are available forever, and easier to sift through.
Again: Twitter has promised it will always offer free service, and will never require that individual or corporate customers have to pay a cent to use Twitter. This is a no-brainer. But it's also smart to offer paid add-ons for power users."

sábado, março 28, 2009Use twitterjobsearch.com - "selling myself"
sábado, março 28, 2009"I HEAR the word “brand,” as in “learn how to brand yourself,” and my heart sinks. I became a journalist rather than a salesperson because I do not like selling anything — including myself. And selling myself as a brand seems even less appealing than selling myself as, well, me."
"Twitter alone offers jobshouts.com (job openings are “tweeted” to users); twitterjobsearch.com, a search engine that searches Twitter for jobs that match key words you enter; and JobAngels (twitter.com/jobangels), a kind of one-on-one online mentoring program."
"“It’s about building a community,” said Veronica Fielding, president of Digital Brand Expressions, which provides search marketing and social media marketing to companies. Once you have created your online profile, at whatever site you’ve chosen, “you’ve just scratched the surface,” she said. “You want to find groups — alumni, former employees of your last jobs, trade groups.”

sábado, março 28, 2009Celebrity Twitter Ghost Writer, Hot Job
sábado, março 28, 2009The New York Times rounds up the growing list of celebrities (and quasi-celebs) who pay people to tweet for them. This list includes Britney Spears, 50 Cent, Ron Paul, Barack Obama, and former Apple dude Guy Kawasaki.
Britney Spears recently advertised for someone to help, among other things, create content for Twitter and Facebook. Kanye West recently told New York magazine that he has hired two people to update his blog. “It’s just like how a designer would work,” he said.
As Twitter becomes more popular, expect to see more of this. John Mayer, for example, could have used a Twitter ghost writer. We're just curious: Are these jobs salary based? Pay-per-tweet? Dental plan?
